2011 Queensland VET Symposium
Positive aspects of this training
“This is a great symposium to attend. I always walk away with a feeling that it was worth it” L Tran - St Peter Claver College
“A very worthwhile PD. I found linking with the corporate sponsors also very worthwhile” P Hadwen - The Rockhampton Grammar School
“I've come away with a lot of information that can be used for PD for my VET staff, as well as some new ideas and ways of looking at how we do things at our school. I'm equipped to plan and implement some changes to some of the support structures that we have in place for our students” B Foster - Trinity Bay SHS
“I always enjoy attending sessions organized by VELG as they are very well organized, informative and enhance my learning as a VET assessor and administrator. This symposium was excellent” J Crown - Brigidine College
“Very informative, I just wish my principal was in attendance to here the changes in VET” K Amprimo - San Sisto College
“Great opportunity for networking and there was a lot of great, up to date information. Although it was a lot of money for the school to send me, I can say it was absolutely worth it!” K Rothery - Glenmore State High School
“This was a very good workshop. I do not work with schools but this informatiuon was still useful for me when I work with RTOs that are not schools” G Polkinghorne - Elva Pty Ltd
“I was interested in find out about logging assessment, the new staff profile and TAS. I feel confident in returning to school and passing on this information. Thank you” K Whitfield - Clevland District State High School
"The networking was very valuable and if you were a person new to VET this would be a great place to start your PD journey" F Bogaart - Suncoast Christian College
“I am new to the area of VET co-ordination and I was a bit hesitant about how much of the content I would understand. However, I found that the presenters presented their content in such a way that I came away with much more knowledge than I thought I would. The whole conference was extremely well organized and we were very well looked after. I would recommend this conference to anybody working in the VET area and will definitely return next year where I know that I will gain more valuable information that I can pass on to my students” J Evans - Saint Monica's College
“I thoroughly enjoyed the first day of the conference. The opportunity to network with colleagues, presenters and with sponsors was great. Thank you for a very professional conference. I particularly enjoyed the key note speakers. Congratulations to you all. I look forward to next year” B Collins - Shailer Park State High School
“I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for the fantastic sessions at the symposium. I have already used some of the information with my students and the sessions were informative and as a result, I know I can use the information obtained to review and improve my current units of competency and methods of delivery…... I can honestly say there was not one session throughout the two days that I didn't get something out of. This would have to be one of the very best Professional Developments I have ever attended in my 13 years of teaching” S King - St Hilda's School
“Immense! I have filled many gaps in my knowledge during the two days. I wish we would have attended an event like this a few years ago, it would have saved a few headaches” R Manteufel - Windaroo Valley SHS
How the training could be improved
“Continue to include Career Development/Career theory as a related strand” B Lemon - Unity College
"Allow flexibility to attend sessions outside of designated stream. Most VET Coordinators are also VET teachers, so I would have like to listen to a few of the VET teacher sessions, but they clashed with important VET coordinator sessions" K Amprimo - San Sisto College
“More hands on training (eg - design an assessment task from start to finish - this could be a double session for VET teachers or coordinators)” M Pace - Holy Spirit College
“At times there was so much being communicated that the speakers rushed. Personally, I found having the printout of presentation slides enhanced my experience for those sessions as I was able to record/make direct link to what/when it was said on my handouts (eg put my "aha! thoughts" - this will provide a better memory jogger). Maybe have more time allocated for sessions” S Deeley - Brisbane School of Distance Education
