Build it in: Teaching tips to build foundation skills into VET (Webinar Series)

Session 1: Start with the foundations: Foundation skills and the ACSF core skill Learning

Are LLN skills the same as Foundation Skills? Where do Employability Skills fit? What are ACSF, CSfW, ES, LLN, core skills, and 21st Century skills? Let's make sense of the jargon and clarify foundation skills in the Australian context.

This webinar offers an opportunity for participants to consider how the ACSF and CSfW developmental frameworks can assist your training preparation, and broad principlies to build learners' foundation skills.

The core skill Learning is integral to learners making progress with all foundation skills development. This webinar will include targeted strategies to build, support and monitor learning through training delivery.

Session 2: An underexposed pair: ACSF core skills Oral Communication and Numeracy

When LLN skills are discussed, Reading and Writing are often the first on the list. There's no doubt they are important and necessary skills but research evidence, and predicted future workplace skills highlight the need to feature Oral Communication and Numeracy skills. Your training content may not include Oral Communication and Numeracy, but knowledge and application of these core skills are embraced within all industries and workplaces. Current and future workers need confidence with Oral Communication and Numeracy skills. In this webinar, we consider how these core skills intersect, their unique features, and teaching tips to build Oral Communication and Numeracy skills into your Vocational Training.

Session 3: One needs the other: ACSF core skills Reading and Writing

When it comes to writing, the core LLN skills Reading and Writing are intertwined, but it's not the same for Reading. It's easy to assume that a person who can read, can also write at the same level, or that learners' capacity with these core skills automatically progress due to participation in training tasks. However, for many learners explicit instruction to build Reading and Writing skills is necessary.
