Clause 4.1 - Standards for RTOs (2015): What does it say?

9 June 2020
ONLINE

When it comes to compliant Marketing and Advertising, it’s important for RTOs to start with the Standards!

Join John Dwyer as he opens our Speed Training event with an exploration of Clause 4.1 of the Standards for RTOs (2015).

This session will provide a broad overview of the requirements of Clause 4.1, which requires that “information, whether disseminated directly by the RTO or on its behalf, is both accurate and factual”.  Components of these standards will be explored in more detail in the following sessions of this Speed Training Event.

About this webinar

Learners and employers need clear, accurate and readily accessible information to make informed choices about training that will meet their needs. In 2013 an ASQA strategic review of the marketing and advertising practices of RTOs found that almost half of the RTOs reviewed were “potentially misleading consumers”. A later ASQA strategic review of ‘unduly’ short training courses (2017) looked at how RTOs advertised course duration on their websites and found that “often information was either absent, widely variable in relation to the same qualifications, or inconsistent in terms of the way it was presented.”

One way to ensure your RTO is not misleading customers and consistently provides factual and accurate information prior to enrolment, is to go back to basics and know Clause 4.1!

Key topics covered within the webinar

This Speed Training session will cover broadly the following key topics::

  • accurately linking services provided with training products on the RTO scope of registration
  • including RTO code, and the code and title of any nationally recognised training product referred to, in marketing information
  • gaining consent to refer to another person or organisation in the RTO marketing material
  • using the NRT logo correctly
  • clarifying the advertising/marketing of third party arrangements
  • distinguishing between nationally recognised training and assessment and any other training and assessment delivered by the RTO
  • advertising or marketing a non-current training product only while it remains on the RTO scope of registration
  • advertising or marketing training products that will enable the learner to obtain a licensed or regulated outcome only where this has been confirmed by the relevant industry regulator
  • including details about government funded subsidy or other financial support when applicable
  • refraining from making guarantees of outcomes beyond the control of the RTO
