About this Webinar

When people talk about LLN issues, they often think about basic reading, writing and counting skills. However, the challenges faced are not just about low-level skills, or skills needed by particular groups. Language, literacy and numeracy provide the key building blocks for learning at all levels of the Australian Qualification Framework and are required to enjoy success in so many facets of everyday life. According to Australian Council for Educational Research:

  • Around 7 million Australians do not possess sufficient literacy to complete everyday life and work tasks;
  • Over 2 million Australians of working age have the lowest level of literacy;
  • Almost 8 million do not meet the minimum numeracy level to calculate basic sums; and
  • Almost 3 million score at the lowest level of numeracy.

This means that RTOs have an important role to play in supporting the development of LLN skills in their learners, to not only enable them to successfully progress their competency achievement, but also to open opportunities for mobility across the wider workforce and community.  This webinar explores how to support adult learners to extend their language, literacy and numeracy skills within a workplace or community context and uses the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) as the basis for extending one’s own practice, and the practice of others.

Alignment: This webinar presents some of the course content for the Unit of Competency TAELLN501 Support the development of adult language literacy and numeracy skills, which is a core unit in the TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training and an elective unit in the TAE50216 Diploma of Training Design and Development.
