Maintaining a capable workforce and implementing structured professional development processes is an essential component of workforce management within an RTO. One such risk is that workforce capability gaps are not identified, monitored or addressed in a systematic way.

A Training Needs Analysis (TNA) identifies what employees need to excel in their roles. It focuses on skills, knowledge, and behaviours, leading to a targeted learning plan.

This template will assist RTOs to analyse the essential needs of a particular job/position, identify an employee’s level of need and target likely training opportunities.

The Excel Workbook is divided into the following sections:

• Job Analysis – records the requirements of a particular job/position within an organisation to establish performance benchmarks and essential needs.
• Employee Job Analysis - considers the levels an employee has against the requirements of that job/position
• Employee Training Analysis – auto-highlights gaps to allow for consideration of training opportunities required to maximise the capability of the employee

The tool allows the user to rate capability levels, prioritise development needs, assign responsibilities, set review dates and monitor completion outcomes.

A completed sample workbook (using a Trainer/Assessor role as the example) is also included to guide implementation, however the template can be used for any role within your RTO.
