Vocational Competence Equivalency Mapping Tool

Anyone delivering training for an RTO must have industry competencies and currency in the unit areas they are delivering. In some cases, this can be demonstrated with vocational competency equivalence mapping. Use this tool to document requirements contained in Outcome Standard 3.3.2a.

Sometimes, trainer/assessors do not “hold” the units they must deliver and/or assess for the RTO – but that does not mean they do not have to have vocational competencies and currency in what they are delivering!

All persons delivering training and/or assessment for the RTO must be able to demonstrate industry competency and currency in what they will deliver.

In allowable circumstances, a person may be able to demonstrate that they have the required industry or vocational competency, but rather than via a statement of attainment, they can show how their prior significant work experience, prior learning and/or professional development activities meet the outcomes of the unit and therefore, the requirements for vocational competency.

This is the tool to document relevant, required vocational knowledge, skills and ongoing professional development (competency and currency). It comes as a four-tab spreadsheet together with:

• Instructions
• An overview of competency mapping and what equivalence is about
• An example sheet complete with comprehensive notes
• An embedded handy tip sheet on the thought process to evaluate sources of evidence to include in the mapping
