Focus Week: Designing a Robust and User- Friendly RPL Process

20 March 2020
ONLINE

This webinar is one of five available during Velg Training's dedicated Focus Week - Design.  A dedicated week of learning opportunities (one webinar per day) specifically designed to increase knowledge and skills of VET practitioners in targeted topics.

About this webinar

In the past RPL has often been an overwhelming process for the candidate AND for the assessor. It has often degenerated into a meaningless and exhausting paper chase.  This session will look at a number of concepts that should drive the design and implementation of an effective and efficient, user-friendly RPL process.

Join John Dwyer, the expert of all things RPL, as he addresses the following concepts:

Key topics covered within webinar

  • RPL is an assessment only pathway because the applicant is claiming to be already competent
  • Assessors need to be expert in the field being assessed but they need to avoid becoming a victim of their own expertise
  • Work back from the job to the unit of competency - applicants don’t think about units of competency; they think about their job
  • Stay “big picture” as long as possible – avoid getting bogged down in detail too soon
  • Visualise competence
  • Harness the power of the “competency conversation”
  • Help the applicant “generate” evidence
  • Focus on ‘natural’ documents
  • Keep asking, “What is this evidence OF?”
  • Understand the rules of evidence and use them to tame “wild” evidence
  • Use other parties to help authenticate evidence
  • Document findings effectively and efficiently
