About this webinar

It wasn’t too long ago that online learning had a serious image problem. It was branded as being the very opposite of what quality teaching should look like. In a few short months, everything has changed. As a trainer, your role has shifted! New technology dominates your time and your delivery has had to have a dramatic overhaul!

A brutal fiscal environment together with improved access (which is indisputably positive) means online learning of some form is here to stay. As facilitators, we need to ensure our learners are engaged, our delivery is effective and our learning outcomes are achieved. Online, remote or blended learning isn’t less time consuming. If anything, it combines the usual challenges of designing and delivering training with the added issues a digital environment brings.

This webinar has been designed specifically in response to your feedback that asked for help with the ‘how to’ further develop your teaching/facilitation techniques for online (or distance) learning.

We will take a look at Salmon’s 5 Stage model for teaching and learning online and provide practical tips and tricks to foster engagement. We will look at strategies to deliver online live sessions, useful tools and what it means to be a facilitator in an online environment. You will also take away a practical online facilitation checklist which you can use to design or validate your sessions.

Presenters

Nina Shilling

With over 20 years of experience as an RTO CEO, Nina has comprehensive knowledge of Vocational Education and Training and the Australian Qualifications Framework. With a strong focus on learning design and student experience, Nina has developed and maintained compliant and engaging training and assessment systems.

Nina understands that good eLearning moves way beyond click and read. The right blend of proven instructional design pedagogies, audience insights and innovative tools are required to create effective and engaging eLearning experiences. These principles, together with appropriate visual treatment, improve learner retention, minimise cognitive overload and help achieve high quality learning outcomes.

Since selling her RTO in 2017, Nina has worked with Strawberry Solutions to create effective online learning solutions for a diverse range of Aussie RTOs. This includes using the Canvas LMS and external LTIs to develop eLearning experiences for learners who study remotely, face-to-face or in blended learning environments. Back by a post graduate qualification in digital learning design, Nina doesn’t apply a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution. She understands that RTO processes are diverse and believes in tailoring online solutions to the organisation, not the other way around.
