The act of conducting assessment doesn’t just happen – it takes careful planning and preparation to ensure that a whole range of items align to create ‘the perfect storm’ for assessment.

This planning needs to setup the assessment process to ensure the right evidence is gathered while providing support to the learner through the assessment process. Finally, the assessor needs to be able to evaluate that evidence to make a valid judgement about competence, either for stand-alone or clustered units, and follow the required recording and reporting procedures to recognise the achievement of the unit(s). There needs to be solid assessment systems in place to ensure this process produces reliable outcomes.
