Making Numeracy Count!

7 July 2021
ONLINE

Taking a holistic approach to LLN can assist high competency completion rates, learner engagement and employer satisfaction. Sometimes we hone in on the importance of literacy skills but did you know…..

Mathematics and numeracy are crucial underpinning life skills for learners! These skills impact directly on youth and adults as individuals, workers and citizens. So what do we need to know to ensure we can make numeracy count when it comes to quality training and assessment practices?

Dave Tout, Senior Research Fellow, Tertiary and Vocational Assessment Services at the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) will share his knowledge developed through national and international numeracy research.

This 90-minute webinar will delve into a number of issues and challenges related to numeracy in this country, and will explore the importance of explicitly addressing this critical foundation skill and embedding numeracy into our learning and assessment approaches.

It will provide insights into numeracy/mathematics skills, trends and research gained from his extensive experiences working in the adult education and training industry.

Attendees will gain valuable awareness of how critical it is to identify and address how numeracy impacts in your training and assessment practices across your industries, and how to implement different strategies in how you and your trainers can better support your learners to enhance their numeracy skills.

Key topics covered within webinar

  • Why is numeracy critical in the 21st century?
  • How does numeracy relate to workplace and industry practices
  • Challenges and issues with numeracy in Australia
  • How does numeracy relate to mathematics, literacy and language?
