Master Mentoring: Excelling at e-Assessment

26 July 2022
Recording of Zoom Meeting

Please note: This fifth session in our Master Mentoring  program has now occurred. However you can still purchase the recording independently or as part of the bundle.

Overview

The use of e-assessment has rapidly increased in vocational education and training (VET) over the past decade and has more recently been advanced through the widespread uptake of Learning Management Systems (LMS) within the sector. Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic became a catalyst for many organisations to transform their assessment practice, leveraging widely available technologies to pivot their approaches during the periods of rolling lockdowns and other restrictions.

This represents a shift from traditional paper-based methods, enabling students to complete assessment electronically and allowing assessors to mark and moderate submissions online, eliminating the need for the physical transfer of paperwork.

This session looks at what to do post-pivot, to raise the bar and excel at e-assessment. It will start by reviewing common e-assessment pitfalls, before highlighting how to overcome these problems.

It will explore how to craft an e-assessment strategy that is robust and engaging, including advice on how to create more authentic online assessments, and building in better feedback mechanisms.

It aims to examine a range of technologies that can be used to enhance e-assessment, both in terms of plugs-in for existing LMSs as well as external platforms that can be used to complement the choices available within your preferred Learning Management System.

Key topics/outcomes from in this webinar:

  •  Identify key e-assessment pitfalls and ways to overcome these
  • Outline the features of a robust and engaging e-assessment strategy
  • Describe methods for providing better feedback to candidates throughout the e-assessment process
  • Discuss how to inspire learners to ‘feedforward’
  • Identify at least five (5) technologies that can be used to support e-assessment within a VET setting.
