The sector is learning to use ‘anticipatory sets’ to hook learners in and activate learning.

Presenters

Alexandra Vardis

Alexandra Vardis is an Instructional Coach in the Professional Teaching Practice team at Melbourne Polytechnic. Alex has been an educator at Melbourne Polytechnic since 2005, teaching primarily in youth programs, first in the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) and then in youth EAL/AMEP - Young Adult Migrant Education Courses (YAMEC).  She then spent a number of years as Program Leader of foundation youth programs. Alex believes that all students should have the opportunity to achieve in education, regardless of their background or life circumstances. In her role in Professional Teaching Practice (PTP) Alex guides and supports teachers to be more skilled and confident in their teaching practice, so they can enable students to realise their learning goals.

Tamie Cousins

Tamie Cousins is an Instructional Coach in the Professional Teaching Practice team at Melbourne Polytechnic. With 18 years’ experience as a dedicated, passionate, and innovative educator across Secondary, Vocational and Higher Education, she has an in-depth knowledge of the adult learning environment. In her role as an Instructional Coach at Melbourne Polytechnic, Tamie partners with educators to support and develop their teaching practice through the implementation of evidence-based, high impact teaching strategies.  Tamie is committed to a learner-centered approach to education, fostering learner engagement, curiosity, and lifelong learning skills.
