Focus Week: ChatGPT and AI: Assessment challenges and opportunities

24 July 2023
Recording of Zoom Webinar

Please note: This live event has now occurred. However, you can still purchase the recording of this webinar individually OR as part of the Student Support Bundle.

This webinar is one of five available during Velg Training's dedicated Focus Week: Assessment Tools & Practices

About this webinar

ChatGPT was released in November 2022, but it is just one of the first of many AI products that are being released across the world. AI is here, and it is changing how we work, and inevitably, how we assess. As a sector, we need to remain current in terms of industry practice, and that will include us being able to graduate learners who have the AI skills to be productive and efficient in the workplace.

In this, 90-minute webinar we will look at some of the challenges and opportunities that ChatGPT and AI will bring to the way we assess. Many of our current assessment methods are going to become difficult, even impractical, to use when AI can produce quality answers or products within seconds. But its not all bad news! ChatGPT, and other AI products, will revolutionise how we work. It will allow workers to be more productive and complete tasks more efficiently in all industries and job roles, including ourselves as trainer and assessors.

During the webinar we will explore and discuss a variety of ways we can adjust our assessment methods to address authenticity risks and also incorporate AI as a tool within assessment tasks. We will also look at ways we can use AI in our own practice as trainers and assessors.

Key topics covered within the webinar

  • The immediate issue: Assessment methods that are likely to become obsolete because of ChatGPT and AI
  • The immediate answer: Direct assessment: Authentic and AI-proof
  • The future: How will AI be used in the industries and job roles we train and assess?
  • The opportunity: Training and assessing our learners to use AI to be more productive, efficient and employable
  • The how: Ideas and examples of how we can change the way we assess to incorporate AI into assessment
  • The tool: Ways assessors can use ChatGPT and AI to be more productive.
