Embedding Literacy Development

11 September 2023
ONLINE via Zoom Webinar

Overview

Foundation skills need literacy support, and the responsibility of literacy development often falls to vocational educators. Not everyone is an English language teacher, though.

With 44% of adults reading at ACSF levels I or 2 and 1 1 % (2.8 million) Australians falling into the Digital exclusion bracket, trainers and educators are trying to turn the tide of the statistics and make a difference.

This session introduces a range of practical ideas to assist learners with new  vocabulary and reiterate industry language and meta-language used in training so that learners can graduate with a higher level of literacy than when they commenced to help them thrive in the workplace. Learn practical and helpful (hidden) literacy strategies to help your learners.

Getting learners interested in their learning is half of the challenge. The second half supports retaining their skills, knowledge, and attitude to the content. These strategies will provide you with strategies in answering the WlllFM, motivating the discouraged, and inspiring learners toward self-growth.

Presented by John Blake (M. Ed. Literacy Education, Grad. Cert. Adult LLN) these easy toapply strategies will benefit students whilst studying and contribute to supporting their employers in the future.

Participants will walk away with practical websites and adaptable activity ideas that will assist learners in language learning.
