Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the formal acknowledgment of a person's current skills and knowledge, no matter how, when or where the learning occurred. However, the challenge for many RTOs is how to best capture and measure this proof of current competency. RPL forms a critical part of the VET system. However, it is something that often creates confusion and stress for both candidates and assessors and continues to be one of the regulator’s major risk priorities.

This session aims to develop assessor skills as well as assist compliance personnel to understand the risks of poorly designed RPL. 

Participants will learn how to best read a unit of competency with RPL in mind and identify effective ways to collect relevant and appropriate evidence to support a candidate’s claim of competency. Finally, the presenter will outline key design features that support the implementation of RPL that is both candidate and audit friendly!
