Using Foundation Skills to Strengthen Competency-Based Assessment

22 November, 6 and 7 December 2017

In this interactive workshop three common questions will be answered regarding LLN and foundation skills:

1. How do I identify foundation skill requirements in vocational assessments?

2. How do I choose the most appropriate pre-training foundation skills assessment?

3. How might I use the Foundation Skills Training Package (FSK) to support vocational training?

A case study will be introduced that will assist in answering these questions. There will also be a discussion regarding challenges and generating ideas to use in your own training.

Ann Leske and Chemène Sinson

Ann Leske has been involved in education and training for 19 years as an adult language literacy and numeracy teacher, project manager, researcher, and consultant. Her passion is to enable learners to successfully build foundation skills, complete courses, or progress to further adult education or training opportunities. Ann leads professional development and consultations across Australia to assist workplaces, RTOs, and teachers with LLN insight to confidently approach LLN delivery.

Chemène specialises in adult education, learning and performance across various industry sectors, both within Australia and internationally. She designs and facilitates TAE programs and materials for numerous RTOs and is a sought-after speaker and facilitator on topics related to TAE or ‘best practice’ facilitation and learning. Chemène promotes a ‘foundation skill focus’ as critical to effective teaching, in any adult learning context.
