This webinar guided participants through practical strategies to create and maintain a culturally safe learning environment for First Nations students, ensuring quality service and compliance.

The session explored:
Understanding the Foundations: It delved into the legislative requirements of Standard 2.5b, its application to all RTOs, and the critical importance of cultural safety within the VET sector.

Recognising Challenges: Participants gained insights into common challenges and structural barriers First Nations students encountered in various learning settings (online, workplace, and classroom).

Implementing Effective Strategies Across the Student Journey:
Pre-enrolment: The session covered how to incorporate inclusive language and acknowledgements in information, and how to effectively identify individual suitability and support needs.

Enrolment: It demonstrated how to use information gathered during enrolment to enhance the service and support provided to First Nations students.

Training, Progression & Support: Participants explored practical strategies for monitoring and meeting the needs of First Nations students in face-to-face, work-based, and online training environments.

Assessment: The session identified key considerations and strategies to improve the assessment experience, ensuring it was culturally appropriate and fair.

Building RTO Capability: It highlighted the importance of cultural awareness for all RTO staff and explored potential training resources.

This session aimed to equip RTOs with actionable insights and approaches to foster a genuinely inclusive and supportive learning environment for First Nations learners, following their journey from initial contact through to successful completion.

Angela is known for her current industry, knowledge and success in developing accredited courses and track record in setting up RTOs and assisting RTOs with compliance against the VET Quality Framework.

Amanda is the Executive Director of Altitude Strategies, an Aboriginal owned and operated organisation, offering a full suite of business review, support, and development tools and expertise. Altitude Strategies are committed to establishing and nurturing the development of Aboriginal organisations as well as educating and guiding mainstream businesses around the needs and requirements of their internal policies, to better support the successful approach of addressing trauma and socio-economic factors that affect first nations peoples.
