Marketing

RTOs must balance their sales and growth needs with specific requirements and allowable practices related to the marketing of their training products and services.

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) is the national regulator for Australia’s VET sector.

Quality Area 2: VET Student Support

Quality Area 2 comprises five focus areas and eight standards that go to the supports provided by RTOs to enable VET students to succeed in their training.

Victorian Registration & Qualifications Authority (VRQA)

The Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) is the body responsible for regulating RTOs in Victoria.

Mapping

Assessment needs to be fit-for-purpose and consistent with the specific training product. Mapping is the process of checking and recording all necessary information is addressed.

Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA)

Responsible for providing advice to the Australian Government to underpin Australia’s response to current, emerging and future labour market and workforce skills and training needs.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Students undertaking nationally recognised training must have a USI in order to receive their qualification or Statement of Attainment, and RTOs must meet the requirements of the USI scheme.

Quality Indicators

All RTOs need to report annually on their performance against Quality Indicators.

Managing Risk

RTOs need to ensure that any risks to VET students, staff and the organisation itself are identified and managed.

Complaints and Appeals

All RTOs should have a policy and procedures in place for how they will deal with feedback, complaints and appeals.

Governance

Good governance is crucial for all RTOs as it establishes systems, policies and practices that ensure accountability, transparency and integrity.

Fees and Refunds

All RTOs must be explicit about their policies for collecting fees from students, and the conditions under which refunds may be issued.
