Informing Learners

Prospective students must be given clear, accurate and timely information to make informed decisions about their training, and must be advised on whether the training product is suitable for their skills and abilities before they enrol.

Assessment - Standards 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5

Standards 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 relate to the focus area of assessment.

Standards at a Glance

Our member-only Standards at a Glance resource provides quick links to each component of the Standards.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The aim of RPL is to formally recognise existing competencies without having to go through the complete training process.

Quality Area 2: VET Student Support

Quality Area 2 comprises five focus areas and eight standards that go to the supports provided by RTOs to enable VET students to succeed in their training.

Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) is the national regulator for Australia’s VET sector.

International Students

There are specific requirements for education and training providers who wish to be registered to deliver to international students.

Apprenticeships and Traineeships

Collectively known as ‘Australian Apprenticeships’, both apprenticeships and traineeships offer the opportunity and benefit of being trained and working towards a nationally recognised qualification, whilst working in industry and earning a wage.

Records Management and Data Retention

Records management and data retention are important activities in an RTO, ensuring that records are created, stored securely and preserved for as long as they are needed.

Credential Policy

The Credential Policy outlines the credentials required for trainers and assessors undertaking particular training and assessment activities or roles. RTOs must comply with the Credential Policy (as referenced within the Standards) to ensure training is delivered by properly qualified and credentialed people.

Identifying Support Needs

RTOs must identify each student’s skills, support needs, disability disclosures, and wellbeing requirements to ensure appropriate advice and assistance is provided throughout their training journey.

Quality Area 3: VET Workforce

Quality Area 3 comprises two focus areas and three standards that shape the way an RTO’s workforce is configured to deliver quality training and assessment.
