Online VET Courses Show Mixed Outcomes

Online VET Courses Show Mixed Outcomes image

The latest report from the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) shows that vocational education and training (VET) courses delivered entirely online have higher non-completion rates than traditional modes of training.

Students who complete online courses experience employment outcomes comparable to those students who engage other modes of delivery.  NCVER Managing Director, Simon Walker, estimates around 8.6% of VET courses commenced in 2017 were delivered fully online.  This is not an insignificant percentage of delivery methods.  Online VET, reports Simon Walker, is characterised by higher subject withdrawal rates and lower course completion rates.
