Update on Mining Skills Organisation Pilot

Update on Mining Skills Organisation Pilot image

The Australian Government has invested in three pilot Skills Organisations, to test ‘end-to-end’ training solutions and enhance the role and leadership of industry in the skills pipeline.

Potential design, approaches and opportunities for improved industry engagement, to improve the long term outcomes of Australia’s VET system are also being explored.  Three  Skills Organisation (SO) pilots, in the human services care, digital technologies and mining industries, will trial new ways of working to shape the national training system to be more responsive to the skills needs for those industries - from the identification of skills needs, to qualifications development, through to improving the quality of training delivery and assessment. Lessons from these pilots will help inform broader improvements to the national training system.

The  Mining Skills Organisation Pilot has commenced with the appointment of Tania Constable PSM, the CEO of the Minerals Council of Australia, as the initial Chair of the Steering Group for the Mining SO.

Ms Constable said she was honoured to lead the Steering Group as part of the Australian Government’s creation of a more flexible and responsive VET system. "This Pilot will help give learners the skills to succeed in modern workplaces and build the pipeline of highly skilled workers which employers need to grow a sustainable minerals industry and a stronger Australia, especially as the nation emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic,” Ms Constable said.

The Mining, Digital Technology and Human Services Care Skills Organisation Pilots were announced as a part of the Australian Government’s $585 million Delivering Skills for Today and Tomorrow package.
