Congratulations to Queensland’s Training Awards Winners for 2017 image

The winners of the 2017 Queensland Training Awards were announced at the State Gala Dinner in Brisbane on Friday 1 September.

In what has become an institution on the Queensland training calendar, 860 guests were privileged to attend the state final to glimpse the excellence and innovation that exists in vocational education and training in Queensland.

Winners were announced across 14 award categories, providing well-deserved recognition for their hard work in a range of industries and professions. Winners in nationally recognised categories now have the opportunity to compete at the Australian Training Awards in Canberra on Thursday 23 November 2017.

The 14 state winners are:

  • Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year – Gemma Hartwig
  • Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year – Katie Emmert
  • Vocational Student of the Year – Rachael Turner
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year – Ethan Atkinson
  • School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year – Bryce Riethmuller
  • Equity VET Student of the Year – Jacqueline Tipene
  • VET Teacher or Trainer of the Year – Ricki-lee Bernhardt-Turpin
  • Large Training Provider of the Year – TAFE Queensland
  • Small Training Provider of the Year – St Columban's College
  • Community Training Initiative of the Year – Better Together
  • Large Employer of the Year – Hutchinson Builders
  • Medium Employer of the Year – Darwalla Group
  • Small Employer of the Year – Tradesmen on Time
  • Premier’s Industry Collaboration Award – EQIP Gladstone Incorporated

Velg Training sponsored the VET Teacher or Trainer of the Year award, received this year by Ricki-lee Bernhardt-Turpin from Kawana Waters State College.

Velg Training members St Columban’s College won the award for Small Training Provider of the Year.
