This risk register tool can be used for assessing and recording potential risks faced by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) against the Standards for RTOs 2015. The template is able to be amended to ensure that it reflects the specific requirements of the RTO using this product.

Please note that the revised Standards for Registered Training Organisations were publicly released on 1 October 2024 and will come into full regulatory effect from 1 July 2025. 

The Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 will continue to apply until then.

This template is based on, and refers to, the requirements for the current regulatory environment.

Undertaking risk assessment activities and developing strategies to mitigate or minimise those risks is an essential business process for every Registered Training Organisation (RTO). One such risk is that of being non-compliant with the Standards for RTOs 2015 and the impact that this has on the organisation.

Use this tool to record the outcome of an assessment of your RTO's risk against each of the clauses of the Standards for RTOs 2015. The tool allows for the recording of an initial assessment, including a summary of the reason/s for the assignment of the particular risk rating. The user then selects a risk level of low, medium, high or extreme. There is an area for then documenting strategies for mitigating or controlling the identified risk and the reassignment of another risk rating after the mitigating mechanisms/controls are put in place.

The tool is provided as a Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) template and can be fully customised.
