2017 Virtual VET Summit Recording: Essential Components of the RPL Process

Velg Training

Recorded on 14/03/2017 this session explored the answers to these questions to promote effective, quality assessment practice when it comes to RPL.

Topic Overview:

What attributes does an assessor desire from all of their students? Demonstration that they have the required knowledge, skill and experiences that will allow them to perform competently and consistently in the workplace. So why is it that so many RPL candidates, that are presenting with their workplace knowledge, skills and experiences find the RPL process time consuming and loaded with training ‘jargon’. Why isn’t the approach a more valid one that implements a fair and flexible methodology resulting in a reliable judgement?

This presentation looks at the essential components of the RPL process that enable the quality and rigour of the outcome to be accomplished. It covers:

  • Determining what competence ‘looks like’ in the workplace;
  • Effective methods of gathering evidence and efficient methods of recording this evidence for quality and compliance;
  • Identifying ‘gaps’ in knowledge and skills and how these can add value to the candidate and their employer;
  • Motivating the candidate for further success; and
  • The professional judgement process in RPL assessment.
