Research Organisations

There are key organisations that research activity within, and about, education and VET in Australia.

Other Organisations

Within the VET sector there are a number of peak industry bodies that exist to provide advice, support and PD opportunities to VET practitioners.

Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) is the national regulator for Australia’s VET sector.

Compliance Requirements

The Compliance Requirements set out requirements relating to accountability, integrity of nationally recognised training products, and information and transparency that RTOs must meet at all times to protect VET students and support the integrity of Australia’s VET sector.

Regulators

VET regulators are independent bodies working to uphold the quality of VET delivered in Australia. They perform a number of functions including the registration of RTOs and subsequent monitoring of their operations for compliance with relevant standards.

Registration and Addition to Scope

Training providers must meet requirements specific to the relevant regulators in order to become registered to deliver VET in Australia.

Registered Training Organisations (RTOs)

A Registered Training Organisation (RTO) is any training provider listed on the national register to provide specific training delivery and/or assessment services in VET.

Assessment Tools

An ‘assessment tool’ means the instrument, instructions and methods used to gather and interpret assessment evidence for the purposes of determining VET student competency

Schedule 1 - Fit and Proper Person Requirements

Schedule 1 - Fit and Proper Person Requirements outline factors such as criminal history, financial management record, regulatory compliance history, and ethical conduct that an RTO will be assessed by the National VET Register.

Transition of training products

There are certain RTO activities that must be completed in set timeframes when a training product is superseded, removed or deleted from the national VET register.

Managing Risk

RTOs need to ensure that any risks to VET students, staff and the organisation itself are identified and managed.
