Ai Group Release Report on Redesigning the Vocational Education Qualifications Framework

Ai Group Release Report on Redesigning the Vocational Education Qualifications Framework image

On 26 February 2020, the national employer association, Ai Group, released a new report into whether or not underpinning values of Vocational Education and Training in Australia have changed since the inception of the existing vocational qualifications framework in Australia.  Technological advances made in the world since the original release date may mean that some qualifications are outdated now.

Skills and capabilities needed for the workforce of the 2020s and beyond are vastly different to those needed for jobs in the 1990s.  Vocational qualifications have been aligned with competencies through the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).  Australia based the new vocational model on the UK approach.  However, the UK model was narrow in its scope.

The revision of the AQF is underway.  New details of the final model of the AQF are yet to be fully determined, but it is clear that the AQF will remain as the primary policy body for Australian education and training.
