Make Providing Assessment Feedback One of Your Best Practices

Make Providing Assessment Feedback One of Your Best Practices image

Feedback is a key element of ongoing learning and assessment. Providing frequent and ongoing feedback is an effective way of improving learning and achievement.

Feedback involves the provision of information about aspects of understanding and performance. It can be given by the assessor to the learner, or by the learner to the assessor, or by learner to learner. Ideally, feedback should be a dialogue rather than one-way communication.

Effective assessment feedback is designed to clarify a learner's current level of understanding and skill development to help plan the next steps towards achieving the desired performance and knowledge outcomes. It helps learners reflect on their learning and their learning strategies to make adjustments and make better progress in their learning.

Good assessment feedback has a positive impact on the person receiving it. Focusing attention on the assessment task rather than on the learner motivates the learner to continue to work. By clarifying expected standards, feedback encourages learners to do the best with the assessment activity.

Join our most experienced VET practitioner, John Dwyer, on 23 March 2022 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm as he explores the importance of giving effective assessment feedback and unpacks what that looks like.
