Webinar Recording: Efficient Marking Guides: Tips to getting it right

Recorded on 07/08/2018, this webinar provided all the tips to getting it right that you need when it comes to efficient and effective assessment marking guides.

Topic overview

When we picture a marking guide, we may think of a simple set of instructions that tell us things such as: what the student must do and submit; the amount of times they are required to do this; the resources required and the methods used to assess - and you would be right.  If this is simply the case, however, why do we keep getting this wrong?  Why is the consistent assessment of learner performance the most commonly recorded non-compliance across Australia today?  In order to represent our vision of competent performance, this webinar increased our perspective by looking at the level of performance skills and knowledge required to achieve competency, the alignment and relationships described across the assessment tasks and interpreting the language used to guide assessment.

What was covered in the webinar

  • How marking guides contribute to compliance
  • Aligning a marking guide to a single instance of summative assessment
  • Developing marking guides that enable competent performance across the bigger picture of mapped assessment tasks
  • Using clear descriptors that promote an understanding of competent performance and guide consistent assessment
