What We Heard about Strengthening Australia’s Skills and Careers Sectors

What We Heard about Strengthening Australia’s Skills and Careers Sectors image

The department of Education, Skills and Employment has released the summaries of the national co-design consultations on the National Skills Commission [NSC], National Careers Institute and Skills Organisations. The consultations involved over 800 people from October to December 2019, across a series of workshops, interviews, online submissions and roundtables.  Valuable insights were provided from a cross section of employers, employment providers, career practitioners, peak bodies, unions, education and training partners and governments.

The work the Skills Package is delivering will be vital to Australia’s economic recovery from COVID-19. It will help ensure our skills and careers sectors are able to support and train a highly skilled, resilient and adaptable workforce.  On 14 May 2020 the National Skills Commissioner Bill 2020 was introduced to the House of Representatives – a key milestone in establishing the NSC.  The National Skills Commissioner is now recognised as a statutory office holder, and provides oversight and vision to the Australian Government regarding the labour market and VET sector.

For more information, you can see the original release on the news page of the Department of Education, Skills and Employment.
